Hi everyone..
I'm a long-time OCD sufferer with rumination or pure obsession OCD. I have been on medication for 20 years now [edited by moderator].
Over the last 3 months, I feel it is not working as well and I have been feeling pressure headaches along with OCD thoughts, dizziness, anxiety, flatness, and a general feeling of being on the brink of slipping deeper into an OCD episode.
Has anyone had this happen to them before? Can a medication stop working? If so, can a new SSRI help?
Thaksn in advance.. @RD66

Hey @RD66 ,
Welcome to the forums.
Whilst the forums cannot provide medical advice, it can be fair to say that medication reviews are often needed.
As our bodies and the environment we are in changes (stress, trauma, crises), medication may work differently - or not work at all.
It is best to speak to your prescribing dr.
And with SSRIs, there are so many different ones, so that may be an option too.
All the best.

Hi, I myself am asking the same question, I have been medicated for the past 26 years on all ssri’s for OCD also augmented with anti psychotics, September last year I weaned myself off both medications of a high dosage, reason being I needed to feel what I feel like with out these medications in my system as after 26 years of what I considered to be a cocktail of non effective medications still leaving me still struggling greatly with OCD and major depression with anxiety features in a zombie like state, conclusion now having been off the meds for 7 months, OCD strong as ever and depression deep dives also strong as ever, the only difference is I am fully aware of my symptoms without them muddled in that zombie like state, I don’t believe in my opinion that meditation works for everyone, they certainly have benefits but have not worked for me and god knows I’ve tried, I’ve also tried CBT, ERP and TMS, now I’m looking to commence with hypnotherapy, that all said I’m also considering recommencing meditations at a higher dose, OCD is like a shape shifter you can anticipate but not predict its next shift, but it will…..

Hey @Draven ,
I've had OCD for quite a few years. To be honest, the OCD stemmed from other issues. I've been on a lot of meds, and I've found that one cocktail of meds has worked for me so I've stuck with it even though it's been 15 years on the same meds. I feel super well, and have considered coming off the meds. But I know that if I do, I may 'undo' all the hard work.
It's been blood, sweat and tears to get to where I am now. And it's not just meds. I've had a lot of psycho therapy too.
I wonder if it's about finding the right meds for you. e.g. I tried a lot of different meds in the class of SSRIs, but only the one I'm on now works for me.
And I can't underestimate the power of psychotherapy when done 'properly'.
I hope you find what works for you, as I can see that feeling so low is not ideal.
