I really need help.

I really need help.

Hi all,

I'm new here. I'm Autistic and have Functional Neurological Disorder. I care for my husband who has Retinitis Pigmentosa, ADHD, Auditory Processing Disorder and a whole host of Depression and anxiety disorders.

Recently we've been struggling with life. My husband attempted suicide just over a year ago. I found him just after had self-harned [edited by moderator]. When he came home from the hospital, we had plans in place to help him. They seemed to be working. He had support workers, he volunteers at a local urban farm, we go to the markets every Sunday etc. Recently though, he's reverted back to how he was just before his attempt (sleeping all the time and not wanting to go anywhere, or do anything).

Today, he told me that he is planning on killing himself. He even told me when.

I don't know what to do, he won't go to the hospital, or talk to anyone. Can anyone give me advice?

Hello @Batgirl89 and welcome to the forums. I'm sorry to hear about the struggles you are going through and the attempt your husband made.

If he isn't willing to talk or seek help it does make things difficult but if you are concerned that he is a danger to himself you can call 000 and get him immediate help.

Please know you are not alone and we are here to support you however we can ❤️.

Hey @Batgirl89 ,

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. I hear where you are coming from and I hear your concerns.

If he is saying he wants to end his life, it's important you seek support as soon as possible. I hear he doesn't want to go to the hospital, so it might mean you contact 000 so they (with police) can come to you. I know how triggering and hard this can be, but if it's the fear of triggering him over him ending his life, the choice may be the trigger.

I am speaking from my own experience. Many times I didn't want police and ambulance involved, but if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be here.

Another option is to contact your area mental health psychiatric triage. If he was in hospital a year ago, he would be on the files. That way, they can possibly organise a CAT team to see him which will be less traumatic.

It's really really important he gets help at this time.
