Good Morning!

Re: Good Morning!

@eudemonism  Hey Eudemonism my antidepressent really helps me. Wish I didnt have to take it but there you go I have to, to get out of bed in the mornings. Then again my early morning walks really help me too.

Re: Good Morning!

@eudemonism Hope you rest well and travel safe.

Re: Good Morning!

@Appleblossom @saturnzoon

I think it's hard to make friends in this period of human history because of technology. It's changed the way we interact. It's almost sad. I think it's a problem for many generations actually. Lots of young people report on having mental ill health and struggle with this stuff. Suicide is the leading cause of death for people under 40 which is scary stuff.

Loneliness and isolation are always important to separate I think. Loneliness is the raw feeling but isolation is when we have no contact with people AT ALL. In complete separation.

I have been watching a few YouTube clips of people making cabins in the woodlands of the US and UK and they show how they build a hut from scratch and use all the land around them. Isolated but not lonely.
It makes me think that technology has twisted this natural desire for others and a natural desire for ourselves on its head. We end up chasing too much of others and not enough of ourselves. Whenever I have felt lonely I ask myself how connected I am to people - in real life and in virtual life. The quality of the connections we make are more important than how many of them we have.
I firmly believe that THIS community here is a meaningful connection.

Re: Good Morning!

I really liked your thoughtful post @MDT

For a while I on the no computer side of the digital divide and I have crossed over, with a little help from, especially my sane friends, but only so far, as I still do not have, or really want, a phone.

I am glad I did not completely go one way or the other on it ... I was struck by how funny everybody looked hooked up to their phones ... now I have interesting conversations with lots of young (and older) people that I do meet ... on the train or at the zoo ... lots of people looking for more ...

Things are changing now. I think our natural precondition to want to connect is taking over.
