Commemorating ANZAC Day

Hey Veterans Families,

Today was a significant day in my family as it's the first time we have commemorated ANZAC Day without my father, who passed late last year.

I went to the Shrine of Remembrance Dawn Service in Melbourne this morning, and it brought up a lot of emotions and memories. My mother watched the local Dawn Service in Cairns online as she is not able to attend in person anymore. And my sister attended the Dawn Service and wore my father's medals in Cairns.

I recalled how my father would explain everything that was happening to me and know what everything represented. He was always so knowledgeable and respectful, and he passed down his values and sense of responsibility to me and my sister.

ANZAC Day is an important day in my family to remember those who have served and the lives we are able to live because of their sacrifices.

We'd love to hear how you commemorated ANZAC Day and what the day means to you and your family?

Take care

Re: Commemorating ANZAC Day

Hi RiverSeal,

Condolences to you and your family on the passing of your father. All those 'firsts' are really hard to get through, but it sounds like you were able to have some good memories of your Dad.

This year was the first year my husband was able to march with my children watching. It was such a proud moment to see him marching, and to see my kids so proud of him. My son also got to read The Ode at his school's Anzac Day assembly, and my daughter laid a wreath.

Thanks for opening up this discussion about Anzac Day!
