Re: Fragile

Systemic bias certainly exists @Appleblossom . I hear you. I'm sorry to hear about what you have been through. Thank you for your openness and transparency. It means a lot to me that you have been able to trust the community with vulnerable parts of your life.

Sitting with you.

I am going to do something like this in the next few days.

About language and association: it says "mum" but I associate the meal with my father, who patiently explained how to make it to my mother, as a food he had sentimental memories of. Mother never had good attitudes to cooking and it was probably more the memory of the tender longing in my father, when I was 8 and just back from the orphanages that meant something to me.

but also checked cortisol lowering foods….

I have been doing that stuff for so long…. My whole life oriented around… good self care… and care of loved ones… exhausted… but it is late…

about science, determinism and randomness, and choice and free will

I have often thought like this

I can finally put it a little simply

I was more exposed to the randomness of the world…. Than the average…

yet still I always had feelings…

Re: Fragile

i really love that sketch at the bottom of the mother and child @Appleblossom just now, i sat back and looked at that shell and thought... wow, isn't it amazing that the shape and design exists? so simple and complex at the same time, really fascinating.

Re: Fragile

I have a different but similar etching of a mother and child in my studio @rav3n  by the same artist. I went to an exhibition nearly 20 years ago, fell in love with her art and social justice vision.

not all children “in care” behave like the 2 girls described. I have witnessed and been bullied by such behaviours, in the flats where I lived a few years after I left the orphanages. I witnessed a little in the orphanages, when I was 8. I was in with kids up to 15;ish… but most aggression I witnessed was from the “workers “, although I didn’t know all the misdemeanours that caused the regular shaming and punishments. I guess it was just a vicarious trauma for me. I chose to talk more about the caring culture among orphanage kids, especially around inclusion in sports, and crafts, namely knitting in the country orphanage.

we all need to be aware of generalisations, although we do need to make some in a complex world. Eg., that person feels safer than another. I am tired of Law and Order representations of kids in care. Its usually based on hype.

Re: Fragile

@Appleblossom i hear you, making generalisations can be dangerous at times.

it is sad to hear these stories. i came across a video recently where a school teacher was expressing how kids today are completely different to kids from previous generations. she was saying that in her primary school class, the kids have little to no problem solving skills. i don't know if she was making a generalisation or not, the video was from the US... but it definitely makes me feel worried for the kids and teachers.

Re: Fragile

I am not sure about younger generations @rav3n . I see a range of behaviours.  Problem solving skills are pretty high level for primary school…. Lots depends on the type of problem. There are a huge range, and even that can be helped by graduated exposure to…problems… haha.., some problems are good… !?!….

But there may be an increased tendency towards learned helplessness. That may block the natural incentive to deal with problems. If everyone is oversold convenience… on devices etc… thanks for reading and responding.
